The Big Bang Theory states that the universe had expanded for one single atom and had developed into what we see today. However, the confusion of this theory is that no-one knows where the atom came from, which raises the controversial arguments regarding Theism and Atheism.
According to the American Museum of Natural History, this idea came from the scientist “Georges Lemaître”, who, in 1927, indicated that “the expansion of the observable universe began with the explosion of a single particle at a definite point in time.” This suggested that the universe expanded from an extremely hot and dense point and continues to expand and cool today. Henry Tye, the Horace White Professor of Physics Emeritus in the College of Arts and Sciences Scientists believe that eventually the outward movement will end and come back together in the Big Crunch.
However, this triggers the topic of Theism for many people, it does not seem to make sense that an atom, matter, can come from “nothing” and that someone had been taking control of this before, which is the reason why so many people strongly believe in a God or a leader. Theism relating to the Big Bang Theory is also proven, by the Oxford Academic website, “William Lane Craig’s theistic cosmological argument that Big Bang cosmology and considerations about finitude and the past warrant the belief that God exists.” Christianity states that there was a God before the Bang and the on-going expansion of the universe, and that the universe was “untamed and shapeless” before God created the heavens and the Earth.
This can be viewed as a mystery solved for the unknown beginning of the Big Bang, or that God had used a mechanism to create the Bang. Additionally, this can also be applied to Islam as well, as according to the BBC Website, “Some Muslims say that the Big Bang can be seen as additional evidence of Allah’s creation and can, therefore, be accepted as scientific truth. However, because it does not include reference to a designer and creator, it is at best incomplete – describing only the process that Allah used in creation.”
Judaism also states that God could have created the universe without contradicting the evidence for the Big Bang Theory.
On the contrary, there is a lot of evidence for Atheist arguments regarding the Big Bang Theory. Atheists claim that the theory is a scientific explanation for the beginning of time, and that a lot of the evidence of the before-beginning just has not been proven yet by scientists. According to the Big Bang Cosmology Website, “As originally proposed by Alan Guth, the concept of inflationary cosmology assumed a beginning to the universe, after which space would undergo a brief yet rapid expansion.” Relating to the supercharged growth spurt, the website also states that “This works through a hypothetical energy field called the inflation that trapped the early universe in an unstable, high-energy state.” So there are many scientific theories regarding the beginning of the Big Bang Theory to counter-argue against the theist beliefs about it.
The unknown story of the single atom of the Big Bang Theory is a heavily discussed argument all over the world. Until scientific evidence proves which side seems to have a more valid argument, the truth will stay unproven.
